It’s easy to get sucked into the complexities of fitness, weight loss, and just creating a healthier lifestyle. 
All these fancy-schmancy diets sound great! They must work, right? We’ve waited so long to get active and feel better within ourselves, so it MUST be complicated if we’ve never done it before, right?

Extreme calorie restriction, OTT exercise plans, Keto, Vegan, Intermittent Fasting, cleanses, magical teas, pills and shakes, and let’s not forget omitting entire food groups. 

The thing is, they may work for awhile, but a lot of the time, they aren’t sustainable. Maybe they WILL work for you long term, but that doesn’t mean they are the holy grail for everyone. 

Don’t try to be fancy. The theory of it all is really quite simple, whether you’re wanting to lose weight or just feel better in yourself. 

Burn more calories than you stick in your gob. This DOESN’T mean to go hungry, and it especially does not account for people with medical and physical reasons why they cannot exercise or lose weight. I’m talking about the population who are eating more than they need and moving less than they should. 

That’s not to say it’s not hard. It’s just most of the time, it’s not complicated. But I’m a prime example of how just because it’s easy in theory, it doesn’t always go to plan. 

Losing weight has always been an issue for me – it’s why I learnt to focus on how I FEEL, not what the scales say. But then I lost my more active day job, and also came off the contraceptive pill, but started eating MORE. All these things together have made the scales go up and up, and I came up with a myriad of excuses for why. But when I got down to it, and was honest with myself, I was just eating too much for how much I was moving. 

Reduced my portion sizes, didn’t change what I ate too much, moved more – just walking initially, drank more water, and the weight is slowly starting to come down again. No complex diets or anything. There are some potential hormonal issues at play as well, and I’m looking into that. But for now, it’s just the basics. 

I’m a basic bitch, and I’m ok with that.
