Home / Advice / Motivation – Where to find it?

when your motivation does a runner.

You have all the best intentions in the world. You want this. You REALLY want this.
But still, you sit on your ass on the couch, eating chocolate/chips/**insert guilty pleasure of choice here**, and watching Netflix.
Then you feel bad. Guilty. Like a failure. You want this, so why can’t you just suck
it up, turn Netflix off and get the hell out there?
What is wrong with you??
Not that we’re making excuses here, but why DON’T you get off the couch/out of bed and get moving? What’s stopping you?
Small kiddies that leave you exhausted and no energy to do anything for yourself?
Busy job/commitments that don’t allow time to move more?
Injury?
Just plain can’t be bothered?
Of course I know there are many who for medical reasons, cannot exercise, whether it be temporary, or long term, and I am not including these people in these “excuses”, I know that if/when you can, you will xx.
So we’ve established you want it. Now how to you motivate yourself enough to go get it?
Well. What are you prepared to do to get there? I’m not here to help you get the skinny/perfect body you have always dreamt of, or to win a body sculpting competition. No. I’m here to help you get fitter. Stronger. More energy. Overcome those aches and pains that stop you getting out and having fun. If weight loss happens on the way, and it probably will, then that is fantastic. But it’s not my main priority when I’m helping you get your life back.
TAKE THE FIRST STEP. JUST MOVE.
That’s it. One foot in front of the other. I don’t care where you go, what you do (as long as you are safe!) or how far you go. Just move. Walk. Swim. Dance. It doesn’t matter, find something you enjoy, and do that. And have fun. The more you enjoy it, the more likely it is you will keep doing it.
Is there a sport you’ve always wanted to try? This 2005 study found that people associated “sport” with fun, and a challenge, whereas the term “exercise” made them think of weight loss, appearance etc. It’s all in how you think about it.
So off you go. Move. Find something you enjoy, or that you’ve always wanted to try, and do it. The more you do it, the more you will want to do it. If you are in the Tauranga area and want ideas for new activities to try, please get in touch with me, and I will do my best to help. And tell me what new things you try, it might be something I’ve always wanted to try, too!!

I am the owner of MisFIT NZ ltd. A love of food and long standing laziness got me to the point of what I thought was no return – overweight, tired, grumpy, sad and never any energy. It took a good long look at the mirror and some serious self talk to get me back on track, and on a long journey back to health and happiness.
